Hi There!

My name is Kate Nelson, and I’m passionate about helping people succeed—both within my organization and in the larger community. Over the years, I’ve built a career in human resources and operations, with a particular focus on the non-profit sector. Leadership has always been a natural calling for me, and I’ve been fortunate to grow quickly in my career. What I love most about my work is helping my team grow—both personally and professionally—and watching them achieve their goals. Coaching others and seeing their success is truly the most rewarding part of my job.

As a leader, I strive to approach every situation with transparency, grace, and a commitment to learning. I make mistakes and own them when I do, and I expect the same from my team. I believe that by working together to fix mistakes, we learn and grow stronger. I don’t expect anyone to be perfect—least of all myself—but I am always eager to learn, especially from my own missteps.

I’m quick to learn and have a passion for teaching and mentoring others. There’s nothing more fulfilling than watching someone grow and take steps to achieve their own success. This passion is what drives me in my current role at a Children’s Home Counseling Services. I’m excited to support the programs that help kids heal, grow, and thrive. As a parent, I want nothing but the best for my own children, and I feel privileged to contribute to creating a healthier and happier community for all children and their families.

I see HR and operations as the foundation that allows our clinicians to focus on their important work of supporting kids and families. Knowing that I’m playing a role in helping others make a difference motivates me every day.

My background in English Writing has shaped my career in unexpected but meaningful ways. In college, my advisors suggested I pursue teaching, and while I resisted the idea at the time, I now realize how much I love guiding others, teaching, and watching people "get it" as they grow in their careers.

Staying motivated means always striving to learn and grow. I listen to short micro-learnings every morning to fill my brain with fresh ideas and new perspectives. I’ve learned that happiness and fulfillment come from continuously moving forward, taking on new challenges, and being open to change.

At my core, I believe in the importance of lifelong learning, being transparent about mistakes, and striving to be the best version of myself. I also believe in creating environments where others feel empowered to do the same.

Outside of work, I recharge by spending time with my family and partner. We love paddle boarding, especially on our favorite pond where “what’s said on the pond stays on the pond.” I also enjoy traveling to new places, experiencing different cultures, and, of course, trying amazing food. At home, I love to cook and entertain—nothing brings me more joy than sharing good food and great company with the people I care about.
